Based on online reviews (including the many suggestions of the good people of Oppo), price, and availability at Tire Rack, I’ve narrowed down my choices to !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . Just to review, my truck is 2wd and rarely leaves the pavement. While I do currently own a set of Blizzaks for the winter which I love, the amount of driving I do has dropped enough that I may just go back to leaving on all seasons after next winter (I can get one more season out of my Blizzaks).

Many of you suggested the General Grabber AT2, and the online reviews are great. While I hated the General Ameritracs that my truck originally came with, I loved the General Altimax RT43s that I put on that stupid ‘11 Malibu I had for a while. Do I really need an AT tire? No, but I dig the way they look, and everything says on road behavior is very good too. The only real downside is they are pricier than the others.

A couple people suggested the Brigestone Dueler A/T Revo2. I had initially overlooked this tire because of price, but a $70 mail in rebate makes it as cheap as any other name brand tire. The only Bridgestones I’ve ever owned are my Blizzaks, which I love. The tread looks a bit more highway friendly than the Grabber AT2, while still being pretty beefy looking.

The other Grabber, the HTS 60, is a new version of the HTS. This is the cheapest of them all, and to be honest it’s the tire that’s designed for how I most use my truck. The thing that makes me a bit gun shy is they’re a really new tire, so there aren’t many reviews or much data out there about them. The old Grabber HTS didn’t have very good reviews, but General seems to have really stepped up their game lately.

I’m leaning towards the Bridgestones. Thoughts/suggestions Oppo?

Get Dunlop Direzza ZII * spec.

If that is not available, get Bridgestone Potenza RE-71R.

Can’t go wrong RS3's at their price either.

Fine, if you absolutely must be cheap, get Toyo Proxes R1R.

I don’t think those are 200 tread wear. These things are important!

Shit, didn’t they update them up to 200 treadwear?

Alternatively, the OP can go with the BFGoodrich g-Force Rival S. But really who would want those over the RE-71R. I think the choice is clear.

AT2 means no need for snow tires if that means anything to you.

Yup, and for only $10 more per corner. I love the AT2s, I never got the hype until I put some on the Defender as winters, and I haven’t taken them off yet even though they look ridiculously small :)

I’ve got the Revo2's in 265/65-R17 on our Tacoma. These were the second set of Revos that the previous owner had on there. I’ve put 40K km on them and they have been great. Quiet on road, good on gravel, alright for an AT in snow -although I run Blizzaks too.

Next spring I’ll replace them with Ko2's.

Why no Michelins on your list? the new M/S2 is supposed to be great on road and the LTX A/T2 is another awesome all-round tire.

Isn’t the R1R a 60 tread wear?

Just looked it up, they used to be 140. They came out with a 200 treadwear later on. Perfect for stock class.

Just like the RS3's probably. Re-label and voila! Street class legal!

Thanks for the info. I didn’t include any Michelins on the list because they’re pricy, and money is tight right now.

Snow tires are far superior to any AT tire, but I really don’t NEED the winter tires. I don’t drive all that much, and since I’m a teacher, school is always closed when the roads are totally FUBARed anyways.

AT2 are winter rated. Not M+S, but the U.S./Canada Winter rated, which is far superior to M+S. They are nearly as good as snow tires. Plenty of people use these as their primary tire year round.

Yup. This is what the roads look like where I live, pretty much from October to April, and the at2's love it. They aren’t quite as good on ice as a dedicated snow tire like a Blizzak, but they’re waaaay better than just an M+S/all-season. I can push snow with my bumpers till the body starts floating and the wheels are just dangling. They’ll also take studs but I wouldn’t recommend it unless you drive 90% of the time on ice roads... which you don't.

That’s not saying you absolutely should buy them, but defending their use as a winter tire.

I love my Grabber AT/2s, but be sure to have them balanced really well. Mine currently vibrate between 55-70mph. but surprisingly the vibration stops above 75 (teehee)

In reading a bunch of reviews, I saw a lot of people having trouble with the tires going out of balance and out of round. I ended up going with the Bridgestones because of that.

Revos are wonderful, even if you don’t take them off pavement. I’d prefer them of your choices here.

I went ahead and ordered the Revos last night. The HTS60 is so new that it only has two customer reviews, and the Grabber ATS has tons of reviews about them being hard to balance and being out of round/going out of round.

The Grabber AT 2 has stolen the tread pattern of the #1 tire the BFG AT T/A KO2. The treadwear is a bit less on the generals but the grip is as close as you can get.
